Rachel & Michael

Rachel and Michael’s wedding is one I look back on with real clarity.

I had photographed one of their friends’ weddings the year before. That connection carried forward, so when they got in touch, there was already a level of trust in place. That always makes a difference on the day. The morning began at Rachel’s parents’ house. Preparations often set the tone, and this one started with energy. At one point, a full floss dance performance broke out. It was unexpected, but it worked. It loosened everyone up and brought a sense of fun right from the start.

The ceremony itself felt personal and considered. Nothing rushed, nothing forced. Just a clear focus on the two of them and the people around them. On the way to the venue, we made a short stop for photos by a row of cottages. The setting was simple but effective. White walls paired with brightly painted doors, especially a strong red, created clean, bold compositions. It is a reminder that you do not need complex locations to create striking images. You need contrast, light, and a relaxed couple.

Clonabreany House offers a wide range of options for photography. That variety allows you to move quickly between different looks without losing momentum. Gardens, courtyards, and interior spaces all within close reach. We used several of them throughout the day.

A common concern couples have is how to act in front of the camera. Where to stand, where to look, what to do with their hands. The answer is usually simpler than expected. Focus on each other and keep things light. Rachel and Michael did exactly that. They approached it with a sense of play rather than pressure, and it showed in every frame. What actually makes photos feel natural? It is not about perfect posing. It is about interaction.

As the evening moved on, the energy shifted again. Once the band started, Rachel and Michael led from the front. They were the first on the dance floor, and that set the pace. Within minutes, the floor filled and stayed full. The kind of atmosphere where the room carries itself.

Looking back, this day stands out for its balance. Strong moments, relaxed pacing, and two families who were fully engaged throughout.

I felt very fortunate to be there to capture it.

Here is the testimonial they sent me:

”Rachel & myself can't thank David enough for capturing our special day in an immaculate manner. The end product, our album, is pride of place in our home & friends and family are hugely impressed with the quality, variety & richness to the pictures of our wedding day. David is a consummate professional & customising his work based upon your requests, venue and the invariable spontaneous happening on the day! He recognises the key shots needed but is always inspired for an ad hoc photo too, some of our favourite shots were those that David recommended whilst on the move. He was a pleasure to deal with (friendly, approachable and humorous) throughout the run up to & including our big day. Thank you”.
